INFORMATION FOR
The convention of the International Society for Improvised Music, hosted by William Paterson this year, brings an array of stellar improvising musicians to our campus. Composer/bandleader Karl Berger is a modern music icon through the Woodstock Music Studio that he founded; he appears on this concert with the University of Michigan Creative Arts Ensemble. Vocalist Pyeng Threadgill and the rolling rhythms of her band bring her eclectic style described as “indie jazz meets Afro groove.” Prior to the concert, featured musicians will be the guests for “Sittin’ In,” an informal discussion about jazz, at 7 p.m. in room 101 of Shea Center.
