World-renowned entertainers Penn & Teller will discuss their more than 30-year career—and perform a few magic tricks—in “35 Years of Magic and B.S.,” an interactive and entertaining program on Friday, March 5, 2010 as part of the 30th Distinguished Lecturer Series at William Paterson University in Wayne.
Tickets for the duo’s rare East coast appearance are $45; $40 for William Paterson faculty and staff and senior citizens; $15 for William Paterson students; and $25 for non-William Paterson students. To purchase tickets, please call the Shea Center Box Office at 973-720-2371 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. or purchase online at www.wpunj.edu/dls. The lecture will take place in She Center on the campus in Wayne; parking is free.
Teller, who in performance is silent, will join in the discussion; there will also be an opportunity for audience members to ask the duo questions. They will also perform a few magic tricks. Their appearance at William Paterson is scheduled between headline appearances at their own theater, the Rio All-suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, and tapings of their Emmy Award-nominated Showtime series.
The pair, who describe themselves as “a couple of eccentric guys who have learned how to do a few cool things, first teamed up in 1975, when they combined Teller’s silent, occasionally creepy magic, with Penn’s clown college education and juggling expertise. They have since been featured on every major television talk and variety show, made guest appearances on many series-based shows, performed on Broadway and off-Broadway, and authored three best-selling books.
Penn & Teller’s understanding of magic and their ability to relate to audiences has also garnered serious academic attention. They serve as visiting scholars at MIT, the school’s highest honor, and have lectured at Oxford University and the Smithsonian Institution. In 2001, they received the Hugh M. Hefner First Amendment Award.
William Paterson's Distinguished Lecturer Series is presented by the William Paterson University Foundation. This program is presented through the generous support of the series’ premier partner, Mercedes-Benz USA, in conjunction with media partner The Record.
