Ace Antonio, a freshman at William Paterson University, has been elected to the Paramus Board of Education after relying heavily on social media to promote his campaign. His Facebook page gained 300 followers on the first day of its launch. He was persistent in updating his Facebook presence by posting his platform, events and issues, and often announcing when he was campaigning in a specific neighborhood. Now, he is receiving requests for advice on how to effectively use Facebook for political campaigning. Antonio, 19, was encouraged to run for office by former teachers and friends. A 2009 graduate of Paramus High School, Antonio has a unique perspective to bring to the Board. He also has a vested interest in the quality of the schools; he has two brothers in the system, one a freshman in high school and the other in the sixth grade.While Antonio has not yet declared a major, he is interested in continuing in public service and will consider political science at William Paterson. In addition to supporting overall educational improvement, he will focus on increased community service opportunities for students to encourage giving back in difficult economic times.
