William Paterson University to Present "American Radical, a New Play, October 14-23

William Paterson University Theatre will present “American Radical,” a new play about the life of suffragist Elizabeth Cady Stanton by Kate Redway and Stephen Rosenfield, beginning Thursday, October 14 at the Hunziker Black Box Theatre on the University’s campus in Wayne. The production features Montclair-based professional actress Kate Redway and is directed by Stephen Rosenfield who teaches in the theatre program and heads the comedy program at William Paterson and is director of the American Comedy Institute in New York City.

The performances will be held October 14-16 and 21-23 at 8 p.m. and October 17 at 3 p.m. in Hunziker Black Box Theatre on campus. General admission is $12 and $9 for William Paterson University community and seniors.

This heroic drama depicts the suffragist Elizabeth Cady Stanton, ninety years after the passage of the 20th Amendment giving women the right to vote. While Stanton is best associated with her contributions as president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, she also is credited with winning property rights for married women, liberalized divorce laws and equal guardianship of children. The play centers around two conversations with a 19th-century figure, an ordinary woman who became a heroine through her battle for the vote.
