“Our History is Our Strength” is this year’s theme as William Paterson University celebrates Women’s History Month with lectures, performances, and films that support the theme.
Performances of The Vagina Monologues, a play by Eve Ensler, will be held in Hunziker Black Box Theatre, as part of a world-wide campaign to end violence against women and girls. Proceeds go to the Strengthen Our Sisters Shelter, West Milford. Performances will be held on Tuesday, March 8 at 12:30 and 7:00 p.m., and Wednesday, March 9 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 for WPUNJ students with ID; and $12 for faculty, staff, and guests. Tickets are available at the Campus Activities Office in the Machuga Student Center and at the door, pending ticket availability.
The sixth annual Red Dress Dinner Awards Ceremony, a benefit celebration to honor the recipients of the Women of Vision Award and the Student Essay Contest winners, will be held on Wednesday, March 23 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the University Commons Ballroom. Tickets are $5 for student with a WPUNJ ID; and $20 for all others. Tickets are on sale at the Campus Activities Office in the Machuga Student Center and at the door, pending ticket availability. Proceeds will be donated to the American Heart Association.
“Warrior Champions: From Baghdad to Beijing” is a film that chronicles the journey of a group of wounded American soldiers as they train for the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing in 2008. The filmmakers followed the soldier athletes, including Iraq war veteran Melissa Stockwell, for a year as they competed for a spot on the team. A screening and discussion will be held on Wednesday, March 30 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Cheng Library Auditorium. This event is sponsored by the University’s Office Of Veteran Affairs, the William Paterson Veteran Student Organization and Operation College Promise. Admission is free, but registration is encouraged at wpunj.edu/warrior.
