William Paterson University Stages Winner of the New Jersey Playwrights Contest June 9 to 26

“Disenchanted! A New Musical Revue” by Dennis Giacino of Cranford, will be staged in the Hunziker Black Box Theatre at William Paterson University in Wayne. The production is the winner of the seventh annual New Jersey Playwrights Contest and will run from June 9 to 26.

The production takes a raucous, funny, eye-opening look into how the women of the “Mouse House” really feel about their “Disney-fied” portrayals. The original princesses: Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, are joined by a host of other leading ladies known to Disney aficionados including Pocahontas, Mulan, Esmeralda and Jane Porter. This song-and-dance musical revue reveals the behind-the-scenes lives of some of your favorite characters.

The cast features William Paterson students and alumni Tara Dernelle of Rutherford, Christine Ermenville-Woody of Clifton, Hilary Goldman of Brooklyn, Wanjiku Kairu of Maplewood, Erin Zapcic of Nutley and outside actors Liz Beck, Gyu Jin Lim, Evelyn Lugo, Serena Ryen, Sumona Rou and Sandy Taylor. The production is directed by Edward Matthews with musical direction by Warren Helms and choreography by Samara Grossman.

Show times for “Disenchanted! A New Musical Revue,” are 8 p.m. on June 9, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25, and 2 p.m. on June 12, 19 and 26. Tickets are $20, $10 for students and $15 for William Paterson community and senior citizens. An opening night reception will follow the performance along with a meet-the-author session immediately following the matinee on June 19.
