William Paterson to Host New Jersey Future Educators Conference on Friday, October 7 for More Than 500 High School Students from More than 50 High Schools


Nearly 500 high schools students from 50 high schools around the state who are interested in becoming teachers are scheduled to attend the 2011 New Jersey Future Educators Association conference on Friday, October 7, at William Paterson University in Wayne. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:25 p.m. in the University Commons Ballroom on campus.

The conference will feature two keynote addresses. Dr. Viktor Joganow, superintendent of Passaic Valley Regional High School, will discuss “What Makes a Great Teacher?” at 9:45 a.m. Dr. Gloria Albright, assistant principal, Martin Luther King Middle School, Trenton, will speak on “Teaching to the Heart of the Child” at 1:35 p.m. Breakout sessions from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 11:45 to 12:45 p.m., will explore topics such as success in teaching, urban teaching, and more, all conducted by William Paterson University faculty.

The New Jersey Future Educators Association is a new statewide organization coordinating the network of individual future educator chapters around the state. The annual statewide conference, designed for high school students who aspire to become teachers, provides a forum for educating prospective future teachers and providing them with pre-professional networking opportunities to engage and interact with peers who have similar goals.

The event is sponsored by William Paterson University, the Center for Future Educators at The College of New Jersey, and the New Jersey Education Association.
