William Paterson University Offers Federal Loan Repayment Program for Graduate Nursing Students Interested in Being Nurse Faculty Members

William Paterson University’s Graduate Programs in Nursing will continue to provide loans to full-time or part-time graduate nursing students through the Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP), a nationwide program administered by the Bureau of Health Professions, U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration. Following graduation, up to 85 percent of the student’s loan may be cancelled in exchange for working as a full-time nursing faculty member over a consecutive four-year period at an accredited school of nursing.

William Paterson University’s master of science degree in nursing prepares nurse leaders with advanced knowledge and practice skills relevant to the health needs of client populations in the community. The program offers three tracks—adult nurse practitioner, education, and administration—and is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. As of fall 2011, the University also offers the doctor of nursing practice degree, the highest-level clinical degree in nursing

To be eligible for an NFLP loan, students must be enrolled in a master of science in nursing or doctor of nursing practice degree program for a minimum of six credits (part-time) or nine credits (full-time) of academic course work per semester. Loans can cover tuition, fees, books, laboratory expenses and other reasonable education costs. Repayment of the loan does not begin until after graduation; 85 percent of the loan will be cancelled for degree recipients who work for four years as a nurse faculty member teaching pre-licensure nursing students.

Applications to the graduate programs for spring 2012 are being accepted. For NFLP applications contact Kem Louie, Ph.D., R.N., associate professor of nursing and director of the graduate nursing program, at 973-720-3215 or 973-720-3511 or e-mail louiek@wpunj.edu.
