William Paterson University’s Department of Music, which first began offering a degree in music education during the 1961-62 academic year, will kick off its 50th anniversary celebration year with three concerts as part of the University’s Midday Artists Series on October 20, October 27, and November 3 at 12:30 p.m. in Shea Center for the Performing Arts on campus. The suggested donation is $5; students are free.
The concerts will feature alumni from the University music department, performing a variety of works. “These concerts provide us with a wonderful opportunity to showcase just a few of the outstanding alumni who have graduated from our music department, and who continue to enhance the cultural life of our region,” says Carol Frierson-Campbell, professor of music and chair of William Paterson’s music department.
On October 20, the concert will feature jazz vocalist Staff Sergeant Alexis Cole '98, a member of the West Point Jazz Knights. The concert on October 27 will feature alumni John Ferrari ’87 percussion; Diane Battersby ‘78, piano; Richard Hartsuiker ‘00, trumpet; Frank Pavese ‘80, piano; the High Mountain Saxophone Quartet, comprised of Gregory Mulford ‘04, Frank Perrone ‘93, Alvin Scott ‘04, and Khalid Griffith ’02; Christina Fiorletta ‘08, flute; Paul Daher ‘00, piano; and Jeffrey Conrad ‘01, tuba.
The final concert on November 3 will include performances by Rita Selby’90 and Matt King ‘86, duo pianists; Dan Foran ‘08, tenor; Caroline Parody ‘91, piano; Karen Cafaro ‘87, soprano; Warren Helms ‘88, piano; Itay Goren ‘04, piano; Joe Bergen ‘07, percussion; and Robert Dowling ‘80, piano.
