William Paterson University to Hold 31st Annual Bilingual/ESL Conference on December 2

A conference designed to address the challenges of teaching English language learners will be held on Friday, December 2 at William Paterson University in Wayne.

“Out of One, Many! The Challenges and Futures of Multiple Englishes,” the 31st Annual Bilingual/ESL conference, will run from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in the University’s building at 1600 Valley Road. The fee is $135; $125 for William Paterson alumni; and $50 for current students, faculty, and staff. The snow date is December 3.

Frank Tang, a clinical professor of foreign language education at New York University, will deliver the keynote address, “World Englishes: Implication to Teaching English Language Learners.”

In addition, the conference will include a series of workshops for ESL/bilingual professionals on a variety of topics. Workshops are planned for three concurrent sessions beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 3:15 p.m. Topics include developing communication strategies for second language learners, tips for bilingual and ESL teachers, and pragmatic knowledge and the second language classroom.

Launched in 1981, William Paterson University’s annual Bilingual/ESL Conference is recognized as one of the most comprehensive language education forums in New Jersey, and regularly drawing several hundred educators as participants. This year’s event is sponsored by the University’s Bilingual/ESL Graduate Program, Department of Languages and Cultures, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Education, and Center for Continuing and Professional Education.
