Winners of Eighth Annual New Jersey Playwrights Competition Announced

Playwrights Bobby Cronin of West New York and Judah Skoff of Hoboken were announced as the winners of the 8th Annual New Jersey Playwrights Contest (NJPC). As winners, Cronin and Skoff will receive fully staged productions of their entries in the spring of 2012 in the Hunziker Black Box Theatre on the William Paterson University campus.

The shows were chosen following two rounds of readings. A committee of readers recommended first-round cuts and final selections were determined after staged readings with an audience.

Skoff’s play, “A Matter of Dreams” is the winner of the NJPC Play Series. Skoff is an attorney at McCarter & English. He has won various awards including the National Playwriting Competition and two New Jersey Governor’s Awards in the Arts. His plays have been performed at the Abington Theatre in New York and other venues.

Cronin’s musical, “Daybreak” was named the winner of the NJPC Musical Series. Cronin is a New Jersey-based composer/lyricist. He is a three-time ASCAP PLUS award recipient and has directed, written and composed various works that have been used by theatre companies from New York City to Japan.

“A Matter of Dreams” runs from April 12-April 29 and “Daybreak” will have performances from June 7-June 24. Edward Matthews, director and founder of the NJPC, will direct both productions. Tickets range from $10 to $22. Each show will be followed by a meet-the-author session.
