Award-Winning Kronos Quartet Performs at William Paterson University on February 25

The Grammy Award-winning Kronos Quartet will perform their internationally celebrated new music and contemporary classical music at William Paterson University in Wayne on Saturday, February 25 at 8 p.m. in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on campus.

For more than 30 years, the Kronos Quartet has built a diverse repertoire for string quartet performing and recording works that range from 20th century classical composers like Bartók to rock legends such as Jimi Hendrix. The ensemble has commissioned more than 750 works and arrangements for string quartet and has released more than 45 groundbreaking recordings. They have featured numerous international artists, composers and collaborators from Nelly Furtado and Noam Chomsky to legendary Bollywood “playback singer” Asha Bhosle. Kronos won a Grammy for Best Chamber Music Performance in 2004 and was named “Musicians of the Year” in 2003 by Musical America.

The Kronos Quartet, composed of David Harrington, violin, John Sherba, violin, Hank Dutt, viola and Jeffrey Zeigler, cello, performed throughout the world, dedicating five months each year to touring. They have performed at world-renowned concert halls, clubs, and festivals, including: Carnegie Hall, the Barbican in London, BAM, Shanghai Concert Hall, and the Sydney Opera House.

Kronos’ commitment to new music ranges far past their recordings and performances. The Kronos Performing Arts Association, a non-profit organization based in San Francisco serves as their commissioning agent and as an outlet for the quartet to mentor emerging professional performers. In 2003 the Association launched a composer-in-residence program for composers under 30 years old named Kronos: Under 30 Project.

The event is part of William Paterson’s Vistas Series, designed to serve the University’s students and faculty, as well as the surrounding multicultural community. Funding for the Vistas Series at William Paterson University has been made possible, in part, by a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State.

Tickets to the concert are $45 for gold circle, $35 for orchestra, $30 for front loge and $25 for rear loge. For ticket information, call the Shea Center Box Office at 973-720-2371 or order online at www.wplive.org.
