Student Support Services

The University will continue to offer many of our student support services remotely. Those services that require in-person interaction will be held in spaces that allow for appropriate social distancing.

Academic Success Center

The Academic Success Center will continue to operate online and will offer in-person services in the Cheng Library as allowed based on social distancing and occupancy guidelines. Scheduled appointments and waiting list notifications by phone/text will be implemented to accommodate space restrictions. Online tutoring through Microsoft Teams and Tutor.com is available for students to receive support remotely.

Accessibility Resource Center

The Accessibility Resource Center will continue to provide a full range of support services for students with documented disabilities. Staff will conduct meetings remotely via email, telephone, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom. The in-person Testing Center will continue to operate when alternative online means are not available. Social distancing guidelines will be observed in its testing rooms. Students who wish to request an accommodation, including an accommodation for a COVID-19-related circumstance, may make a request through the Accessibility Resource Center using the Student Application Form.

Advisement

The Advisement Center will continue to provide student support services and academic advisement remotely through an array of remote platforms. The Center will offer flexible remote options via Microsoft Teams, Zoom, telephone, email, virtual open drop-in hours, and live chat. Some in-person meetings may be available by appointment. Students should talk with an advisor about scheduling to help ensure they stay on track and are able to register for fall and spring classes during the appropriate registration timetable. Career Development

The Career Development Center will continue to provide a full slate of services for students. Services include career counseling, resume/cover letter reviews, and job search assistance. Students who are sophomores to seniors and interested in working with a professional mentor through the Pesce Family Mentoring Institute can find information on the Center’s webpages. All students have access to the Handshake career portal at https://wpunj.joinhandshake.com, which houses all part-time, full-time, and internship opportunities. All programming, including job fairs, networking events, and webinars, will be conducted virtually through this portal. Appointments can be scheduled directly through Handshake or by phone and will be conducted remotely via email, telephone, Microsoft Teams, or Zoom.

Cheng Library

The Cheng Library will be open to students for both in-person and remote access with reduced seating capacity to meet social distancing guidelines. Available computer stations will be reduced to 50 percent of existing capacity. Study rooms will also have reduced occupancy. Plexiglass barriers have been placed where needed to minimize face-to-face contact. Software that allows for screen sharing from a distance is currently installed and in use at the Reference Desk. A self-check-out station at the Lending (Circulation) Desk will ensure minimal contact for the borrowing and return of materials. Recent enhancements in interlibrary loan, document delivery services, chapter copying, and e-book availability will provide greater access to needed content. The library will continue to offer remote access options such as the virtual chat reference services, research guides, and online library instruction, among other services. Curbside pickup of materials for loan will be available by request, with pickup in Lot 4. Regular cleaning and disinfecting of open and common spaces will be conducted on a regular basis by Custodial Services.

University Bookstore

The University Bookstore, located in the Student Center, is currently operating online, with fulfillment of orders for books and other merchandise for shipping online. For the first two weeks of the fall 2020 semester, students may place orders online for either shipping or curbside pickup. When the state moves to Stage 3 of reopening, the Bookstore will be open for in-store shopping with reduced capacity and all COVID health and safety guidelines in effect.

Computer Labs

Computer labs will be open. Capacity will be reduced to maintain social distancing. Computer users will be required to clean the work area, keyboard, and mouse before and after each use with provided cleaning solutions and sanitizing wipes. Lab areas will be sanitized by Custodial Services each evening. Hand sanitizers will be available as well.

Counseling, Health and Wellness Center

The Counseling Health and Wellness Center will continue to provide counseling and health services and wellness programming. All counseling and health appointments will be scheduled via telephone so that students can be pre-screened for symptoms of COVID-19. Pre-screening will also be utilized so that a determination can be made about whether an in-person or telehealth visit would be most appropriate in order to best protect the students and staff who are present in the department. Most appointments will continue to be provided remotely via telephone or a videoconferencing platform. In-person visits will be reserved for walk-in emergencies and for certain health visits that are pre-determined to necessitate this type of visit. In-person wellness programs will be limited to those that can still be delivered in compliance with social distancing and health and safety protocols or will be offered virtually.

Educational Opportunity Fund

The Educational Opportunity Fund program will continue to offer resources remotely including advisement, transitional programs, student check-ins, counseling, and an array of virtual tutoring experiences. Remote advisement, support services, and other departmental resources will be offered primarily via Microsoft Teams, Zoom and EOF Blackboard, as well as telephone appointments and email. The office will offer virtual weekly late office hours as well as continue to provide remote academic coaching and tutoring options. Financial Aid

The Office of Financial Aid staff will continue to address student inquiries via phone, email, and Microsoft Teams, and will continue to process financial aid functions. Limited in-person services will be available. The office will respond to inquiries as soon as possible, within 24 hours on business days. Registration

Online registration for the fall 2020 semester will take place according to the previously announced timetables posted on the Registration link on the Registrar’s website. https://www.wpunj.edu/registrar/registration/.

The Registrar’s office will continue to offer services to students, faculty, and staff on a remote basis. Class scheduling, registration, add/drop, graduation applications, major/minor changes, and leave/withdrawals, among other services, are available online. Staff members will be available to assist via telephone, email, and Microsoft Teams chat, with limited in-person services by appointment.

Student Enrollment Services

The Office of Student Enrollment Services staff continues to process billing, payment, financial aid and record inquiries, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. During the fall semester, in-person counter service will be available by appointment. Students can make an appointment via the WPConnect student portal; “walk-in” sign up will be available at the front door of Morrison Hall. Here are all the ways to contact the office:

Study Abroad

All William Paterson-led study abroad programs and Student Exchange Programs have been canceled for fall 2020. Students may defer their programs to spring 2021 if available or as changing public health and travel regulations allow. Students planning to participate in third-party study abroad programs not run by William Paterson are urged to consider delaying participation. Students should consult information available from the CDC and the U.S. Department of State prior to making any financial commitments to such programs. The University’s Office for International Students and Scholars is prepared to assist students in locating information that will help inform their decision.

Testing Services

Placement testing is available online; several options are available for students. All in-person external exams, such as the SAT and CLEP, have been cancelled for the fall 2020 semester. For information, visit https://www.wpunj.edu/officeoftesting/.

Veteran and Military Affairs

The office will continue to provide support to veterans, active duty service members, and their families by administering services that assist with the transition from military service member to college student. Peer tutoring sessions and individual meetings with students will be conducted by phone or virtually. In-person services will be limited based on social distancing requirements.
