Pursuant to NJSA 18A:62-3, the Board of Trustees of William Paterson University may waive the payment of the University's anticipated tuition revenues to accomplish mission-related or policy goals.

Senior Citizen Waiver

Any New Jersey resident age 65 or over may enroll in regularly scheduled courses and receive a waiver of tuition; provided that available classroom space permits and that tuition paying students constitute the minimum number required for the course.

  • Registration is permitted "ONLY" on the first day of the semester/session.
  • Only the cost of tuition will be waived.
    • The student is responsible for all application fees, as well as mandatory and course related fees, which includes the Student Government Association and Technology Fees.
  • Participants in this program must complete a NEW application each semester and submit identification to prove eligibility.
  • The Senior Citizen Waiver form and Government Issued ID are required to prove eligibility.

    First Steps:

    • Application: Fill out an online application. If you have a Bachelor’s Degree, make sure it is a GRADUATE application. For application questions, please contact: Graduate Admissions at graduate@wpunj.edu or 973-720-3641.
    • Senior Citizen Waiver Form: Once you receive your decision letter, submit your Senior Citizen Waiver Form (with ID) to Student Enrollment Services. Contact: studentservices@wpunj.edu or 973-720-3945.

Auditing vs. Matriculating into a Program

    • Senior students who register for a course and select to AUDIT the course are still responsible for all application fees, as well as mandatory and course related fees.
    • Senior students who are MATRICULATED undergraduate students, are responsible for filing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (www.fafsa.gov) for the appropriate academic year and providing all requested information to the Office of Financial Aid to determine financial aid eligibility. The Senior Citizen waiver will be reduced by any State or Federal Student Financial Aid, grants and scholarship awards.
    • Senior students also need to submit a Senior Citizen Waiver form to Student Enrollment Services.
