Summer 2012 Financial Aid  Application!

Deadline  -  June  25,  2012


To be considered for summer financial aid, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a processed 2011-2012 Free Application for Federal Student Aid  (FAFSA) on file in the Financial Aid Office by June 25, 2012  as summer aid will be  based on your 2011-2012 FAFSA.  If you have not already completed a 2011-2012 FAFSA, you may do so at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Be enrolled half time for at least six (6) credits (for undergraduate students)  or at least five (5) credits (for graduate students) by June 25, 2012.  All students must maintain half time attendance to qualify for federal student loans.
  • Be making financial aid satisfactory academic progress.
  • Be enrolled in a  matriculated program  at William Paterson University.
  • Have not exhausted funding eligibility for student loans and/or Pell Grant during the 2011-2012 Award Year.
  • Complete the online 2012 Summer Financial Aid Application (see link below).

Pell eligible students who are registered for summer classes do not need to complete a summer application since the Financial Aid Office will be reviewing their Pell eligibility automatically.

Visiting students must contact their home institution to obtain summer aid.

Visiting students who have been admitted to WPU for the Fall 2012 semester, non-degree, less than half-time or those who  have exhausted their federal aid may consider applying for an alternative student loan by access the Financial Aid homepage at www.wpunj.edu/financial-aid/ and clicking  on Alternative Student Loans.   However, please be advised that the NJCLASS private loan program requires a completed FAFSA among several other requirements.  Alternative loans must be approved by June 25, 2012.   These loans require a credit check and may take the lender up to 3 weeks to render a decision.  

Students do not need to submit a Summer Financial Aid application to obtain an alternative loan.    

Most responses will be issued within fourteen (14) business days.  Access your WP Connect to view the status of your application and your awards.

Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal Guidelines

Spring 2012 (including summer) semester Appeals will be accepted beginning September 16, 2011 and ending December 15, 2011. (CLOSED)

 Family Education Right to Privacy Act

 WPUNJ participates in the Family Education Right to Privacy Act (FERPA) for our student records policy. Please be aware that students would complete the FERPA Form to give permission to the University to speak with anyone other than the student. Please be aware that students would complete the FERPA Form to give permission to the University to speak with anyone other than the student.  Students may authorize release of their academic, financial aid, student account and/or disciplinary records to a third party (i.e.., parents grandparents, etc.) by completing the FERPA form on-line.  You may adjust access to the respective records at any time by simply logging into WPConnect Self Services under "Student Records".  These permissions will remain active until your anticipated date of graduation.Click here for more information.

 Step 1

 Direct Loan Entrance Counseling

  • Entrance Counseling helps you understand your rights and responsibilities as student loan borrower and provides the terms and conditions associated with your loan(s).

Step 2

 Direct Loan Promissory Note.

  • The Direct Loan Promissory Note is used to make one or more loans for one or more academic years (up to 10 years).
  • If you are a student borrower under the Direct Loan Program attending a school that is authorized and chooses to make multiple loans under the same loan for more than one academic year, you will only sign one note. It will be used for all of your loans over multiple academic years. For example, if you enroll in college as a freshman and borrow under the Direct Loan Program for all years of study, you may be able to borrow this note for all the years.   • Student must be enrolled at least half-time.

 

 Parent PLUS Application
  •  The Direct PLUS Loan Request is a 4–step web form that will be used instead of a paper process.  The parent must sign in to the StudentLoans.gov web site with his or her Federal Personal Identification Number (PIN).  A parent who does not have a PIN can request one via the Federal Student Aid Pin web site (www.pin.ed.gov).

     Graduate PLUS Application

    •  The  Graduate PLUS Loan Request is a 4–step web form that will be used instead of a paper process.  The student must sign in to the StudentLoans.gov web site with his or her Federal Student Aid Personal Identification Number (PIN).  A borrower who does not have a PIN can request one via the Federal Student Aid Pin web site (www.pin.ed.gov).

Perkins Loans

All William Paterson University Perkins Loan Borrowers must complete the following ONLY IF you have been offered a Perkins Loan in Your financial aid package:

  • Perkins Loan Entrance Counseling
    If you are a first time Perkins Loan borrower at WPUNJ, please complete this step as well as completing the Perkins Master Promissory Note below.
  • Perkins Loan Promissory Note
    Print, complete, and submit the Perkins Master Promissory Note to the Financial Aid Office. Should you have any questions contact Ms. Susan Rienstra in the Financial Aid Office at rienstras@wpunj.edu or 973-720-2925. Faxed copies cannot be accepted; original signatures are required.

Alternative Student Loans

Alternative student loans can be used if you have received the maximum in all other Programs. Less than half-time matriculated students and non-matriculated students who are in Academic Progress failure and/or are waiting for financial aid funding can apply for this type of loan. “Once you have completed the loan application from the lender, approved loans will take up to 15 business days or more for processing." All students who apply for an alternative loan after February 14, 2010 must complete the Private Education Loan Application Self Certification. This form must be submitted to your lender. Who Can Borrow?

  • Students (and parents) who are U. S. citizens
  • Permanent U. S. residents
  • International students are eligible with a creditworthy cosigner (who must be citizen or permanent resident) and appropriate U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service documentation
  • Non-matriculated students, only in special cases** 

Stafford Loan Exit Counseling

Prior to graduating or leaving school, Stafford Loan borrower's recipients must complete exit counseling. The Stafford Loan Exit Counseling will explain your rights and responsibilities as a Stafford Loan borrower. The Exit Counseling session will take about 30-40 minutes to complete.

Loan Cancellation/Reduction Form

Please be advised if the above-requested reduction or cancellation produces a balance with the University, you are responsible and must submit your payment to the Center for Student Services.
