With flexible options and alternate credentials, your experience outside of college courses can power your degree. See how your previous work, knowledge, certifications and skills can count for credit at William Paterson.
You can earn credit for non-college learning that includes work experience, corporate training, professional licenses, and certifications by completing a portfolio assessment.
Standardized exams: Demonstrate your knowledge and gain credit by taking standardized national exams such as CLEP, AP, IB, TECEP, and CPEP.
Course exams: Use what you've learned to get credit for classes. Students can "test out" of a course by taking faculty-developed exams that address learning outside of the classroom
Transfer up to 90 credits, as long as you take 30 credits from William Paterson, for a total of 120 credits to graduate.
Earn credit for professional training programs you've completed. Programs that have been evaluated by the American Council on Education's College Credit Recommendation Service count towards this option.
Just submit proof of your training completion to receive credit. This option includes (but isn't limited to) the following:
Earn degree credit for military training and experience by providing your transcripts from ACE, CCAF, AART, JST, SMART, or the U.S. Coast Guard Institute. Send your transcripts to the Registrar's Office or the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs, along with a copy of your DD214 (military discharge document.)
