PRAXIS CORE:
Basic Skills Requirement for Teacher Preparation Removal:
On January 1, 2025, the NJ Department of Education will no longer require the basic skills assessment (PRAXIS CORE) for entry to teacher preparation programs or for issuance of the Certificate of Eligibility, except for those persons pursuing the state’s limited certifications: Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (Limited CE) or the Limited Certificate of Eligibility With Advanced Standing (Limited CEAS). "A piece of advice I would recommend to anyone who is still in the process, would be to take advantage of the curriculum materials section of Cheng Library! They have so many practice books to help study. I also would say just to take as many practice tests that are even on the ETS website… This way a person gets a better idea of what areas they need to study the most. It took a lot to persevere through failed test results, but 3rd time was the charm! Keep going is always the motto."

"My advice on the Praxis Core is to take the exams as soon as possible. Take advantage of the resources WPU provides. To pass the exam, their weekend writing and reading workshops were important. The workshops were virtual during the pandemic, but our instructor made every workshop interactive! It was nice to see other future educators working together towards one goal."

"The PRAXIS exams have always seemed so daunting to me. Like most I am not the best at every subject and have especially struggled with math. Because of this I was not exactly eager to attempt the Praxis exams. However, by working with peers and professors alike I was able to confidently take and pass all the Praxis exams required for my teacher certification. I even went on to work as a peer mentor in the College of Educations Praxis CORE mentor program!"
