The Department of Educational Leadership and Professional Studies offers graduate study for education professionals who wish to enhance their careers with advanced degrees (EdD, MEd, MA), certifications, and endorsements. Our programs help students achieve in areas such as educational research, teaching, supervising, and providing leadership as directors, principals, teacher leaders, librarians, or curriculum specialists at all levels of instruction: elementary, secondary, and higher education.

The 30-credit master's degree in higher education administration is an advanced and in-depth study of the history, structure, organization and administration of colleges and universities in the United States. Overall concentration is on leadership. More info »
These 30-credit master's degree programs meet the professional development needs of inquiring educators who want to develop in-depth knowledge of theories and trends, research, pedagogical approaches, and applications of educational technology for teaching in one of five areas of specialization. Some courses are offered online or in blended learning environments. Graduates in all concentrations are prepared to become classroom researchers and leaders with a commitment to equity and diversity in curriculum development and reform. More info »
Concentrations
○ Bilingual/English as a Second Language: This program focuses on developing advanced practitioners in the fields of bilingual education and English for speakers of other languages. As part of the full master's degree program in education, the concentration stresses principles of inquiry, theory, professional applications, and research. More info »
○ Early Childhood Education: This concentration focuses on inquiry-based learning of developmentally appropriate practice, family involvement, technology, and issues and trends in early childhood education. Students apply theoretical knowledge to action research studies conducted in a variety of early childhood settings. More info »
○ School Library Media (100% Online program): This online program focuses on developing the school librarian as a teacher, instructional partner, information specialist, reading advocate, and program administrator for preschool through high school grades. More info »
○ STEM/STEAM: The online MEd in Curriculum and Learning program, with a STEM/STEAM concentration, meets the needs of teachers by focusing on how mathematics, science, and technology can better employ problem- and inquiry-based approaches, and engage students in hands-on, project-based activities. The program will increase and deepen teachers’ knowledge and skills by integrating the arts and emergent technologies to teach STEM subjects in innovative ways, while creating engaging and active learning environments. This program is intended for candidates who want to be certified as Directors of School Counseling Services in New Jersey PK-12 school districts. The Director of School Counseling Services endorsement authorizes the holder to serve as a director, administrator or supervisor of school counseling services, including the supervision of educational activities in areas related to and within the counseling program in grades PK-12. Each of the courses uses appropriate technology to allow learners to discover knowledge dynamically and emphasizes the NCTM standards of problem solving as a means as well as a goal. The English as a Second Language (ESL) certification program is designed for individuals who possess a New Jersey standard teaching certificate in a content area or elementary education and who wish to become certified to teach English as a Second Language. It requires 21 credits of study in seven courses, and has the option of continuing in the MEd in Bilingual/ESL program. More info »
This 12-credit professional graduate certificate program is designed to prepare candidates to enhance their knowledge, skills, and competence in designing and teaching STEM and STEAM courses, to adequately integrate emergent technologies and/or the various forms of the arts into these courses. The program will enhance and deepen teachers' knowledge and skills by integrating the arts and emergent technologies to teach STEM subjects in innovative ways while creating engaging and active learning environments. Courses taken in this certificate program will count toward the MEd in Curriculum and Learning with a concentration in STEM/STEAM.
This 12-credit professional online graduate certificate program is designed to prepare candidates to enhance their knowledge, skills, competence, and leadership skills, to adequately meet growing needs for the e-learning sector from the K-16 industry. The program is partially aligned with National Standards for Quality Online Learning (NSQ) as well as International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for Educators and Leaders. The Teacher Leadership Certificate program is designed to enable teachers to earn a Teacher Leader Endorsement under the New Jersey Teacher Leader Law. Through NJ DOE (Department of Education), teachers are allowed to add a Teacher Leader Endorsement onto their initial instructional certificate by completing a state approved program that is aligned to the Teacher Leader Model of Standards.
