Carol Frierson-Campbell, Executive Director 

Carol Frierson-Campbell, Ph.D., professor of music, teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in instrumental music education and research and coordinates the music education program at William Paterson University. Her scholarly interests include music education in marginalized communities, instrumental music education, and research pedagogy. Her most recent publications include Inquiry in Music Education: Concepts and Methods for the Beginning Researcher (2nd edition, Routledge 2022 with Hildegard Froehlich), and Sociological Thinking about Music Education (Oxford 2022)From January through June, 2025 she was a Fulbright Scholar at the National Music Conservatory in Amman, Jordan. Dr. F-C (as her students know her) also directs the WPMusic Outreach Project and coordinates a partnership with the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music in the occupied Palestinian Territories.

 

Gideon Forbes, Project Assistant

Gideon Forbes is a saxophonist, nay player, composer, and educator in Brooklyn. He has shared the stage with notable musicians such as Angelica Sanchez, Joe Lovano, and Aber Nehme. An in-demand collaborator and freelance artist, he is a member of the Brooklyn Nomads, Habibi Gün, the New York Arabic Orchestra, Big Beat Big Band, Takht al-Nagham, and performs with Zafer Tawil, Firas Zreik, Zahra Al-Zubaidi, Brian Prunka, and Sami Abu Shumays. Gideon co-leads Orchestra Farha and Nortonk, which released their eponymous album on Biophilia Records. He has taught workshops around the United States and abroad. In July 2018 Gideon taught at the Edward Said National Conservatory in Ramallah, Palestine, sponsored by the Muna & Basem Hishmeh Foundation.
