students The Masters of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) prepares students to function as advanced practice nurses (adult or family nurse practitioners), educators or administrators. Through coursework and clinical practice, the individual develops expertise in advanced health nursing care, leadership and research skills. The Master's Degree in Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) 655 K Street NW, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20001, Telephone (202) 887-6791, until June 30, 2030.

Admission Requirements:

In addition to the University’s admission requirements:

    • Submit two names of references (former faculty and current manager/supervisor).
    • A BSN transcript with a minimum of 3.0 GPA is required.  Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 may contact the program director. *
    • Prerequisite undergraduate courses: statistics, health assessment and nursing research**.
    • Currently employed as an RN
    • Students enrolling in the WPU on campus program must have an active NJ RN license; students enrolling in the WPU online program must have an active RN license in the state they are practicing. For your application to be processed, the University must be able to validate your RN license. If your state does not have an online RN license validation process, you must submit a notarized copy of current RN license valid in the U.S. to Office of Admissions, William Paterson University, 300 Pompton Road, Wayne, NJ 07470
    • Submit a current resume.

Requirements for the Degree

Students must complete 35 credits of study for the education and 31 credits administration tracks and 39 credits for adult/gerontology nurse practitioner and 47 credits for the family nurse practitioner program.
