Immigrant Trust Directive

Immigrant Trust Directive

It is the policy of the William Paterson University Police Department to comply with New Jersey Attorney General Directive 2018-6.  This directive draws a clearer distinction between state, county, and local law enforcement officers, who are responsible for enforcing state criminal law, and federal immigration authorities, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), who enforce federal civil immigration law. The Directive limits the types of voluntary assistance that New Jersey’s law enforcement officers may provide to federal immigration authorities and applies to state and local police officers, correctional officers working in state prisons and county jails, as well as state and county prosecutors.

Below are two links that further describe this directive.  The first link is for the Attorney General’s website for the Immigrant Trust Directive, and the second link is our policy designed to comply with this directive.
