DVM programs vary most in terms of both their pre-req’s/co-req’s and suggested additional course work, so students are advised to pin-point their target schools early (upon entrance into the Pre-Medical Professions concentration). The number and types of internships/shadowing hours for entrance into DVM (veterinary) programs varies with each program, but in general, both large animal and small animal internships are highly valuable. The total number of hours suggested is usually high and should be planned for. Since there are no Vet schools in New Jersey, large animal veterinary internship positions are more difficult to obtain and this should be planned for early in the pre-vets program. Required Electives: CHEM 2580 Organic Chemistry II PHYS 2560 College Physics II or PHYS2610 General Physics II CHEM 4270 Biochemistry Recommended Electives: Any Pre-Medical Concentration Elective Course Option Other Recommendations: Check your target Veterinary Schools for Anatomy & Physiology requirements, and for Nutrition requirements.
