Salary Range and Step Information

The University administers state-wide compensation schedules which fix the salary range for each position title.  A step is an interval on the salary range. The salaries associated with these ranges are negotiated and approved by the State and applicable Unions and are in effect for the duration of the current contract.

Classified title ranges are comprised of eleven salary steps. Depending on title, an individual may be hired between step one and step four and advance within the salary range at one step per year until the eighth step. When the eighth step has been reached, the employee will remain at that step for 39 pay periods before advancing to the ninth step, if warranted by performance. When the ninth and tenth step are reached, the employee will remain at that step for 52 pay periods before advancing to the next step, if warranted by performance and as governed by the current contract.

Faculty and unclassified AFT ranges are comprised of thirteen salary steps. Employees advance one step per year if warranted by performance up to the eighth step. At step eight through eleven, employees are eligible for advancement to the next step upon completion of 39 pay periods and if warranted by performance. Once at the eleventh step an employee will remain at that step for 52 pay periods before advancing to step twelve. Once at the twelfth step an employee will remain at that step for 104 pay periods before advancing to the maximum step thirteen if warranted by performance.

Higher Education Manager (NAL) titles have an associated salary range. These salary ranges provide a minimum and maximum of the range. These titles are not subject to step increments but have performance-based increases.
